I'd love for you to meet a delightful young woman I found in the Goody Room at RWA National last month. No, I didn't take her home but I make her agree to blog for us before I let her leave the room. Please help me welcome D. D. Scott, author of BOOTSCOOTIN' BLAHNIKS.

D. D. Scott’s romantic comedies are all about sexy, sassy, smart, career-driven women and the men who complete them. They're a bit chick lit with a gone-country twist.

She's a member of RWA as well as RWA's Chick Lit Writers of the World, Kiss of Death, ScriptScene, ESPAN, and IRWA Chapters plus serves on RWA’s History Committee for the National RWA Board. She blogs with group blog Savvy Authors the second Friday of every month and has an active blog of her own on her website at www.DDScott.com. In addition, her first RWR article was published by RWA in the July 2010 issue.

A Writer’s Go-to-Gal for Muse Therapy, D. D. debuted her Muse Therapy Live Workshops this past March and April for GCCRWA’s Silken Sands Conference in Florida and RT BookLovers’ Conventions in Ohio. She’s busy now preparing for the launch of MUSE THERAPY: UNLEASHING YOUR INNER SYBIL (the book version of her Muse Therapy Online Classes & Live Workshops) on Kindle and Smashwords this Fall.

Bootscootin’ My Way Into E-Book Country

Yesterday may have been Friday the 13th, but in my D. D. Scott Bootscootin’ World, we’re kickin’ superstition – and Doubt Demons too – to the curb!

How?

Well...in D. D. Scott style of course...by bootscootin’ right on over or around anything in your way. Whether in cowboy boots, stilettos or pink fuzzy slippers (had me some of those too with tons of big bling glued on), it’s all about not giving-up your writing-for-publication dreams while on your Yellow Brick Road to Publishing Oz...despite the Wicked Witches, Flying Monkeys and big-ass Apple Hurling Trees swooping in on you for the kill.

And speaking of pink fuzzy slippers, I’m thrilled to be guest blogging here at Pink Fuzzy Slipper Writers for the first time and for the second stop on my BOOTSCOOTIN’ BLAHNIKS Blog Tour.

How did I get here?

I met your way beyond fabulous Mary Marvella at RWA10 in Orlando and just knew I wanted to be a part of her world too! If I’m not in my favorite boots or heels, I’m comfy cozy in my fuzzy slippers. Although, no denial here, the fuzzy beasts that pamper my feet are purple this year. Last year’s were pink. And next year’s, I combined both my worlds – I found pink fuzzy cowboy boot slippers! Here they are:

How cool are those babies?!

Anyhoo...I’m with you today as the second official stop on my BOOTSCOOTIN’ BLAHNIKS Blog Tour, celebrating the release of my debut book BOOTSCOOTIN’ BLAHNIKS. A romantic comedy, BOOTSCOOTIN’ BLAHNIKS is chick lit, gone-country. Think Sex and The City meets Urban Cowboy! And I chose Pink Fuzzy Slipper Writers as a tour stop because I read on Mary Marvella’s RWA10 post that she loves “slightly crazy middle-aged kick ass women” and damn if I don’t too!!! And my books sure fit that twisted but super fun and fabulous mold!

I’m sooo not one for molds. To the complete contrary. I always dance – bootscootin’ style for me – to my own beat. And so do my characters. We’re sexy, sassy, smart, career-driven women finding the men who complete us. I’m lucky I finally found my real-life hero. And boy do I have some fun and hotter-than-hot ones to introduce to my gutsy-gal heroines. (Did you recognize international cover model Jimmy Thomas on my debut cover?! Thought I’d start on the top...oh, that didn’t sound quite right, did it?! LOL!) Here’s a sneak peak:

I think I write such gutsy-gal heroines because I live every day of my life as both a writer and as a woman in today’s chaotic Wonder Woman-required World trying to be gutsy. Lucky for me – and my heroine’s too – I discovered Kate White’s beyond fabulous book ‘Why Good Girls Don’t Get Ahead...But Gutsy Girls Do: Nine Secrets Every Working Woman Must Know’. Yes, Kate White as in Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief. If you haven’t read Kate’s book...do it! It will change your life. (Sidenote: I met Kate at this year’s RT10 in Ohio. I was a gutsy-girl and went up and introduced myself to her. Now...we’re considering partnering for my Muse Therapy Adventures (more on that in a bit)! Gutsy, right?!)

And how’s this for more gutsy-girl antics?! Catering to your Mary Marvella’s and my love of crazy, middle-aged, kick-ass women, my BOOTSCOOTIN’ book series has characters I adoringly refer to as The Moms. Nobody ‘f’s with The Moms! Fun stuff!

Where am I going with all this gutsy-girl talk?

I’ve only made it to my very own debut-release day because I’ve had the audacity to bootscoot onto my pages with my chick lit, gone-country characters even though chick lit is supposedly dead. When everyone else on the dance floor was waltzing along with their fabulous historicals, doing whatever they do in their paranormal-style Star Wars cantinas, slithering up and down poles for an erotica twist, etc. You get the idea. I had the guts to not just bootscoot, but to also do so on the E-Book Country dance floor (BOOTSCOOTIN’ BLAHNIKS is available at Amazon’s Kindle Store plus on www.Smashwords.com). Retail space most of the traditional pub world is still watching from the sidelines – too afraid to dance on with gusto like nobody’s watching.

To go another gutsy-girl step forward, and to give myself a platform on which to build a fan base for my romantic comedy books, I also decided to finally use the psychology degree my parents paid for and developed Muse Therapy for writers.

In my Muse Therapy Online Classes, Live Workshops and Blog-Bits, I give writer’s fun and fabulous tools to analyze their muses’ funks, rein in their creative divas and up their page counts.

Together, we discover what makes your muses tick. What ticks ‘em off. And what makes them dance like nobody's watching.

Here’s the scoop...the secret to upping your page count isn’t done by hurling nasty insults at your muses. Oh no. You’ve got to wine and dine those divas. Whether it’s with coffee, chocolate, fabulous finds in some chic boutique, or with what I call Muse Therapy Trips, it’s all about pampering those chicks and chucks ‘til you get out of them exactly what you want...and then some.

As a writer’s Go-to-Gal for Muse Therapy, I know it ain’t easy being the Queen or King of your Creative Kingdom. It’s tough. Damn tough. There are sooo many Doubt Demons, Wicked Witches, Flying Monkeys, and Apple-Hurling Trees driving us to lie down in our poppy fields of Rejection Hell and slumber away our dreams.

But dammit! We’re writers! And like the forever gutsy-girl, tell-it-like-it-is Queen Nora (as in Nora Roberts) said at RWA10, “Publication is wild wicked with huge nosedives and near miss rejections. Suck it up...or stay outta the pool!”

I find it wonderfully inspiring that RWA10 was relocated to Disney World, a magical place, a place proof-positive that ‘Dreams really do come true’. A place that became a glorious, fun-filled reality even after countless people stomped on Mr. Disney’s dreams. Did you know that Walt Disney himself was once fired from a newspaper because “He never had any good ideas”?!

So put your own style of slippers – or whatever you, your feet and your muses love to dance in - then bootscoot, waltz, Star Wars Cantina Groove, or what the hell...pole dance your way to your dreams!

In the mean time, I’m looking forward to your comments here at Pink Fuzzy Slipper Writers and hope to see you “in therapy” either during my online class sessions or live workshops. Check my website www.DDScott.com for dates and locations.

Ohhh...and how’s this for a bit of added fun? Anyone who comments will be eligible to win a free Muse Therapy Online Class of her or his choice between now & the end of the year. So start commenting...

‘Til then...keep your muses happy. Pamper them silly. They’ll be glad you did and so will you.

What a fun post! And your book sounds like a blast too. I'll check that out and check out your muse therapy.

I read Kate White's Gutsy Girls book, too. And I'm publishing my book Cattitude. It should be on Kindle and Smashwords soon. I don't know if it's guts, but I believe in myself and my book. So I'm going after it.

Good luck with Bootscootin' Blahniks. I hope to see you on the Kindle bestseller list. :)

Thanks bunches for your sweet comments!

Hope you have a blast with BOOTSCOOTIN' BLAHNIKS!

Making readers laugh and have a fun and fabulous time are, to me, the best parts about being a writer.

And as for my Muse Therapy, well...I get a real kick out of helping writers by showing them laughter is the best medicine to get thru all the crazies in the writing-for-publication biz!!!

Let me know when your CATTITUDE is out as that sounds like my kind of Gutsy Girl book!!! And never stop believing in yourself and your books!

    You go, Girl!!!

  13. Mary Ricksen // August 14, 2010 at 8:33 PM

What a great post. Thanks so much for coming to visit us. Yes, we love our Mary M., she is the PFS. Without her it wouldn't be. She is such a character too. That's exactly why you got along with her so well. I've never heard of must therapy, mine needs commitment, (literally), I think. At least Electro shock therapy.
What a great title for a book. I wish you the best of luck with your book and your muse venture!

  14. Mary Marvella // August 14, 2010 at 8:58 PM

Thanks bunches for your kind words, Mary!

And no worries on your probable commitment and/or shock therapy...writing-for-publication provides plenty of excuses to use either treatment method! No denials there!!! LOL! But I'd suggest you try one of my Muse Therapy Online Classes first...might save you some money and unnecessary suffering...LOL!!!

Just remember no matter which one (or all three) you end-up with...keep laughing and writing your way thru the pain!!!

You and your muses are worth every struggle!
