Blogging

Speaking of garden tubs. Note the tub in the left corner of the garden.

Do I have your attention? These photos were taken in Granbury, Texas.

Hey, there. I'm Mary Marvella Barfield. I didn't organize this blog. I was invited to become a Pink Fuzzy Slipper Writer and I did. The job must have been hard because the girls here wore out two mamas. (Just kidding) The beauty of a group blog is that when one of us is too overwhelmed by life and/or writing, someone can take up the slack. Since July I've been taking my turn.

FYI
There are two ways to keep score on blogs.

1. The more comments a blog entry gets, the more successful that blog looks. Yep. When I open a blog and see 50 comments, I believe people like it. When I see 1 or none, I wonder. A blog is a lonely place when there are no comments.

2. Some blogs have statistics counters we can read to see who has visited and from where. The stats tell me we have visitors, but they don't tell the readers.

On to the blog for today.

Do you blog?
I blog. A lot of people blog. In fact, individuals blog on their own and in groups. Some bloggers are now household names and celebrities because they found a way to get a lot of attention and keep it.

Which topics?
On the Fuzzies, I blog about writing, makeup, skincare, my life in general, and things that bug me. I also interview well known authors I know and admire.

Where?

I blog here and on my MySpace, sometimes. I really don't take time to keep that blog updated.

Why blog?
I blog because it is one way to let friends who visit know about me. One day, when I'm multi-published people will want my books because they love my fun style and they think I'm interesting.(Stop gagging!) Many writers see blogging as a way to let folks get to know us.

Do you read blogs regularly?
I read a few of them, mostly those by friends and writers I admire. I have too many to list but I read because their authors are my friends and they sometimes visit mine.

Which blogs do you visit often and why?

Do you have a blog you'd like to mention so we can visit you?

www.MaryMarvella.com

I expect comments, even if you tell me this was boring!
We'd love suggestions, too.

    I'll bite.
I read many, many blogs daily, about half are writers and the other half comprise of publishing people: agent and editor blogs, and I have a couple of fun ones that I visit. http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/ is one, though it is on the graphic side today, there are some amazing dragons if you scroll down.
And, of course, I'll pimp my own blog. http://fantasycrapshoot.blogspot.com/
I usually write on a M-W-F schedule about writerly stuff, urban fantasy topics or just random thoughts. Come by, scroll down the list, and leave a comment. Today's topic is the kick-ass heroine, with a twist.
And thanks for the topic, Mother Mary!

    Hi Mary,
Except for this Fuzzies blog, I don't blog. Thanks for the blog info, Margaret.

    Yes. I blog.

    www.EverybodyNeedsALittleRomance.com

We try to have fun there. All this week we've been discussing our beauty mistakes (I'm up today with my uh-oh during my home bikini wax). Since it's our theme week, we're giving away $15 to Amazon. We'll do one theme week a month and do I have a great prize picked out for next month!

We also do a Must Have book for a month. There's 5 of us ladies there. We each have a month selected and we each pick a favorite book, post the cover for a month, review the book, and see if the author wants to be a guest.

We're also taking part in Gemma Halliday's auction starting up monday at romanticinks.com (where I also blog on Sundays, but have been slacking here lately). We're giving away our Must Have books for a year to the winner.

Around all that, we talk about life, family, writing, reading, anything.

I visit many blogs around the web, commenting on a lot and lurking on some too when I have nothing to add to the conversation.

I read more blogs than I post on.

    I read Margaret's blog. Also Keri's Blog.

I read The Lipstick Chronicles blog, where I post in the comments most days and guest blog a couple of times a year.

These are the other blogs I read daily:
    Kristen Painter
    Mel Frances
    Confessions of a Pioneer Woman
    Riding with the Top Down
    Smart Bitches

There are others I visit on occasion.

I also blog at Cynderella's Castle - my personal blog. (Cynthiadalbe.blogspot.com) I'll put things there that either don't belong on this blog (like the pictures from go topless day), or personal stuff, like my workout report from yesterday.

I blog here at PFSW at least a couple of times a month. Mary is "mom" but I'm the housekeeper from the blog! I do the dusting, moping, and polish the silver. LOL
    Dear Author

Mary, I blog for all the reasons you blog. I have too many blogs on my Google Reader, mostly because I have a lot of friends who blog.

I belong to two group blogs, Magical Musings and the American Title V finalists' blog, Love Conquers. I also have a personal blog.

  6. Mary Marvella // January 16, 2009 at 3:02 PM

Thanks, Margaret! I hoped some of you would plug your fav blogs and your own. Yours is a good one for everyone's list.

I wondered if anyone would even read today's blog to the end today.

  7. Mary Marvella // January 16, 2009 at 3:02 PM

Joanne, we love having you here!

  8. Mary Marvella // January 16, 2009 at 3:04 PM

Keri, I don't visit your blog often enough! Thanks for stopping by here.

Did I confuse you with the garden tub?

  9. Mary Marvella // January 16, 2009 at 3:07 PM

Cyndi! Ah, Cyndi. You are more than a housekeeper to us. You are an artist!

Your personal blog is "out of this world" lovely and worth visiting.

Sorry Mama Mary can't stop there everyday.

Edie's blogs rock! Her blogs are must reads, inspirational and encouraging.

Aren't you missing one here. I'll check that out.

Is everyone taking notes of the great blogs?

Well Hello there Mama Mary, soon-to-be best-selling interesting author :)

You make a huge point in the comment numbers. I had never thought about it until you brought it up. I am trying to comment more often here and on other blogs now :) It's not like I don't read them and react anyhow. It just takes a moment and it may make a difference in the blogger's day :)

I have been visiting these blogs as of late:
    http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/

    http://theromancestudio.blogspot.com/

    http://virginiaromance.blogspot.com/

    http://www.karintabke.com/blog/index.php

    And this one is mine:

  13. Mary Marvella // January 16, 2009 at 4:36 PM

Thanks, Sherry. Our stats show way more visitors than the comments would indicate.

I think some people are afraid to leave information they think will get them spam from a blog site.

Some just don't want to sign in. Maybe we need to post an occasional reminder for the person who doesn't have a blogger account or has forgotten identity or password info.

"Anonymous" has left some great comments and signed her name.

Hello, Mary M. and all the wonderful ladies here at Pink Fuzzy Slipper Writers! A few months ago, Mary R. interviewed me here and I had a ball. I hopped over at Mary R's. invite and had to chuckle all the way through your post today. It was fun, light-hearted and oh-so-true! I am a blogger as well an author of paranormal romance and erotica(breaking into this venue, I am). Anyway, you've hit a nerve when you said you can tell a good blog by the comments. I have been blogging maybe little over or under a year now. I struggle to get people aboard and to hang out regularly like the next person, I suppose. I run contests, belong to a group of authors who do blogging events almost monthly and invite authors and editors alike to visit with me. My best blogging and comments received were the months of September-December of last year. The reason you ask? Well... I sponsored the Wild Rose Presses celebration of Black Rose line month and had a guesthost blogger every day along with great prizes. December due to the Christmas Sleigh Ride Blog Event. I anticipate maybe February will be another good month for viewing but not so much comments due to Romancing February Blog event (for more details on this and other events please visit www.dayanaknight.blogspot.com)

You ask if I have a blog and who do I visit frequently? Yes, as noted above I have a blog I update regularly. Who do I visit, well I'm pressed for time like everyone else but I visit this blog, Mary Ricksen's blog and a slew of blogs I list on my own under Favorites. Do I always comment? Probably no unless a topic really catches my eye or hits a nerve.

Anyway, I've been more than long-winded this afternoon but I'd love to invite anyone who is interested to pop over to my blog and check it out. I'm running a 'time management' forum now and getting lots of great ideas and suggestions.

    Hope to see you there.

    Best,
    Dayana Knight

Thanks for stopping by, Dayana. I appreciated your comments, too.
Glad you enjoyed my off the cuff comments. Hope the garden tub wasn't too far off the wall.

So many blogs to visit, so little time.

  16. Dayana // January 16, 2009 at 10:06 PM

Actually, Mary, I love the garden tub. And I for one would love to use it, LOL

I'm a bath person *grin* That would be heaven with a nice White Zinfandel, the scent of Night Jasmine or Angel Trumpet on a starlit, sultry evening with a bright cresting full moon, eh? How's that for imagery.

    Oh wait...

how about a really hot hunk to share in all the above?

    Best,
    Dayana~

Wow Mary! Did you even imagine you little filler would get so much interests! What a wealth of blogs to visit! And now they are recorded here on the fuzzies and I can look back and find them whenever I need too! Great idea. Thanks everyone for stopping by today.

Ooooooh, Dayana! I like the way you think. Bring on the hunks.

My grandma's house had an outhouse when I was growing up, so the outdoor bath tub had significance for me. It is in my aunt's back yard. How appropriate is that? I twas late i th season for her garden to be at its best.

Scarlet, I knew you'd be making notes!

Cynthia, your blog address is messed up! This is the real one: Cynthiadalba.blogspot.com

Just want everyone to be able to find you.

Hi, Mary, great blog as always. I try to blog and I try to stop by. My cyber friends are amazing and always have something fantastic to say. I'd list several but there's just too many. I see all of my favorites listed here!

  22. Beth Trissel // January 19, 2009 at 10:52 AM

I have of course read a number of blog posts, especially this fine one.
    :)
I prefer them fairly short and meaty.
    I also like pretty pics.
