Is there anything cuter than those chubby cheek, cherub-mouth litte baby smiles? Those grins from such a tiny soul go right to my heart!

Beth Trissel, loving her new grandbaby :)

No, Beth, there isn't. And I love the way they smell. There is nothing more divine than rocking a sleeping baby.

Indeed, there is nothing more precious than a baby's pudgy face staring up at you with those bright eyes. I can't help but wonder what is going on behind those ever curious eyes. Likewise, nothing is more serene than a sleeping baby's heartbeat against my own.

I agree! That sweet little head nestled in the crook of your neck, warm breath, contented sighs, and then the push off your shoulder, and sudden cross eyed recognition with an incredible open mouthed, huge, toothless grin - the good stuff that memories are made of!

Years ago I met a young woman at a conference. She was distraught about her family.

A tornado had passed close to her family miles away from where we were.

She wanted to head outside for a smoke but I believed I could make her feel better.

I had her close her eyes and imagine she held her toddler in her arms, smelling the baby shampoo in his blond hair and feeling his warm body wrapped in a soft towel after his bath.

"Feel his little heart beating against your chest," I told her.

"Rub his bare back, soothing him. His little body relaxes and drifts to sleep," I said.

I said more, watching her breathing slow and her frown relax.

By the time I told her to open her eyes she had calmed and hugged me.

We still send emails 5 years later.
