“There they stand, the innumerable stars, shining in order like a living hymn, written in light.”  ~N.P. Willis
On a warm summer’s eve in the country, peepers sing from the meadow grass, a chorus of little frogs.  Crickets chirp and katydids join in.  Owls hoot or screech, depending on their kind.  Bats dart in the twilight, snatching their supper.  Nighthawks pirouette and sound their peculiar cry as they plummet in pursuit of similar food.   Sweet yellow primroses magically unfurl at dusk.  Hummingbird moths swoop in like tiny fairies, wings whirring, to feed on the nectar.  White flowers, queen of the night, glow in the deepening dusk while all else fades.  Fireflies flicker in the darkened yard and meadow like miniature Christmas lights.  Glowing orbs for children to catch and put into jars. The sights, sounds, and scents of the country are all enhanced on a summer’s night.  To be remembered fondly this winter when the icy wind flings sleet at the windows~

‘Night time is really the best time to work.  All the ideas are there to be yours because everyone else is asleep.’  ~Catherine O’Hara

‘The night walked down the sky with the moon in her hand.’ ~Frederick L. Knowles

What a lovely tribute to summer. I see why your work is so often up for awards. You paint such lovely pictures with you prose. I am quite green with envy.

So true, Beth. I am a night owl and enjoy working at night when it's quiet.
