Joanne, can you tell us something about yourself. Something that no one knows about your writing?
My most interesting writing quirk is I need the radio on. I just cant concentrate without easy listening music. My lated release is Wicked Intentions, due out late October. It is a paranorma/mystery anthology. The easies thing about being a writer is that almost anything you write makes sense and can be a story. The hardest about being a writer is I occasionally get writers block. When that happens I take a break from writing and concentrate on my painting. My favorite genre to write about is non fiction true crime because it happened to someone. Someone lived through something horrific. The oddest thing on my desk is the numerous papers with a coffee stain on them.
Joanne, tells us about yourself.

I hail from the famous Hocking Hills region of southeastern Ohio. I have worked in the blue-collar industry most of my life. Besides having several novels under my belt, I also canvass paint.
When not busy with hobbies or working outside the home, I spend time with relatives, my dogs Jasmine and Scooter, and volunteer my time within the community. I am a member of the Hocking Hill’s Arts and Craftsmen Association, The Hocking County Historical Society and Museum, and the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center. I believe in family values and following your dreams.

Can you share a little about your latest book?

 Undaunted and short on patience, the agent stared at the fat jerk sitting before him gleefully puffing on a cigar, most likely homegrown in Detroit, Michigan, not Cuba. “I attend the Kingdom Hall on occasion,” he said.
“Well most of us like Malloy. He’s helped rid this town of criminals. He was a volunteer firefighter, and his wife cooks for the annual policeman’s ball. Hell, Malloy even coached volleyball for the kids when he wuz younger. Now a person who does that ain’t all bad,” the chief declared.
Barstow’s sudden burst of energy to safeguard his fishy friend, picqued Harmon’s interest. What had Malloy done? He decided he wasn’t leaving until he had the full, sordid story.
“So you and Malloy are pals, and he did something he couldn’t get out of, and you tried to salvage his job, but the big shots said, ‘No!’ Is that how it went?” Harmon asked.
“Yeah, Malloy did somethin’ real stupid.”
“I’m listening,” Harmon replied.
“The rumors of Malloy allowin’ his friends and family members to snoop through the cornfield, and photograph the area after the victims were removed, was true. Everyone is curious about this crime. Nothin’ this big ever happened in this town before, and the pictures were for souvenirs, you know. Then after the limbs were removed, he brought in a back hoe, and tore up the whole damned crime scene, involving Thomas.” The chief growled in disgust.
“Yeah, that was stupid,” Harmon said. “So Malloy’s unethical conduct was the reason the disciplinary board was in session?”
“Yep, they made their decision this mornin’,” the chief said. “He’s out. There was nothin’ I could do for him.”
“You’d think a cop with over twenty years’ experience would demonstrate better reasoning then destroy evidence. Unless he’s covering his own tracks,” Harmon said realizing what he was implying. “Do you believe Malloy committed the murders?”
“Now, I didn’t say that. A lot of officers were on this case, so a lot of mistakes happened. We never dealt with this type crime before. Many might have made the same mistakes Malloy did.”
Dismissing the chief’s excuses for Malloy’s incompetence, Harmon demanded an answer. He was tired of being duped by the local cops and wanted the truth, and wanted it now. Standing and placing both palms on the chief’s shiny desk, the agent looked the chief square in his squinty brown eyes and said, “Cough it up, Chief! There’s more to it then that. If there were numerous mistakes made by officers other then Malloy, why was he the only one kicked off the force? Now spit it out! What the hell did Malloy do?”
“All right, all right!” the chief whined, “Malloy screwed the dead girl three weeks before she was killed–and got caught!”
The Agent was speechless. Walking to the window overlooking Main Street, he stared vacantly. Hadn’t one of our witnesses suggested something like that? But–with the crisp wind howling, the citizens dining in the local cafés, others window shopping for Christmas or starting their shift at the town’s businesses–this seems unreal. How can such a seemingly sweet country town be so full of bad apples, savage murders, police misconduct and corruption, evidence tampering? This town is certainly no Mayberry, thought Harmon.

Great to be here, Mary. Today I’m talking about change. Change is good. Without it there can be no progress. We’re fortunate to be living in a period in history when people can reinvent themselves with relative ease. I’ve had at least 5 fulfilling careers, romance writer being the latest!

I’ve written 15 medieval romances, and that odyssey began because of my interest in genealogy. Every genealogist with roots in England has a dream to trace their family back to the Norman Conquest. It’s impossible, unless you’re descended from royalty or nobility, which I’m not. So I made up a hero who played a crucial role in William the Conqueror’s victory at Hastings in 1066. He established a dynasty that I follow through successive generations in my Montbryce Legacy romances, written under the pen name Anna Markland.

Just like genealogy itself, writing about his family became an obsession; for example the initial trilogy turned into four books!

However, I began to feel stuck in a medieval rut, and thought I’d try my hand at a contemporary story. I’m a Canadian, but I spend quite a bit of time in Panama, and I wanted to use that country as a setting. But I live in the fantastic city of Victoria, British Columbia, so I set part of the action there too.

I decided to make this book more erotic than my historicals, which I categorise as juicy and sensuous rather than erotic, so a different pen name seemed in order. I chose Roxanne Rogerson. Why? Roxanne is reputed to be high on the list of all time sexiest female names, and Rogerson is one of my ancestral names. (Did I mention I’m an amateur genealogist?)

I’m also an avid reader of romance, and I’m particularly intrigued with stories with a bit of kink in them! I’m not into pain or mutilation or abuse, but Dominant heroes who risk everything to protect their willing Submissives appeal to me. As a boomer myself, I’m interested in a growing phenomenon—the increasing numbers of people in my age bracket who are acknowledging erotic cravings and urges they may have suppressed for years.

 
This is where the inspiration for my book, Boom! Listen to Your Heart came from. It’s a lighthearted, some might say tongue-in-cheek look at two people exploring their kinky side and finding love. Remember, change is good.

There’s suspense too: my hero is an ex-cop turned private investigator whose search for a missing woman puts the heroine’s life in danger.

He handed the shirt and tie over to a clerk. “Can you hang on to these? My lover and I are headed over to the men’s underwear department.”

Ignoring the woman’s rapid blinking, he made a beeline for the Calvin Klein display.

“Black?’ he asked, holding a bikini thong in front of his crotch.

Heat shot through her. “Nice,” she murmured.

“What size do you think I am?”

Her tongue seemed to be glued to the roof of her mouth. “Large, I’d guess.”

He smirked, hunting through the bin. “Only large, eh? Not XL? Okay. I’ll try them on, to be sure.”

She trailed after him to the dressing room, her face on fire. The female clerk took one look at him, then spied the underwear. She smiled seductively, but her smile turned to a glare when she realized he wasn’t alone.

Jessie glared back.

You wanna fight me for him? Huh? Huh?

“I’ll wait here,” she declared.

The clerk led the way into the change rooms, reminding him, as she glanced at his groin, to keep his own underwear on when he tried the Calvin Klein.

Jessie made a show of being interested in the racks near the dressing rooms, but the breath wooshed from her lungs when she looked up three minutes later to see Michael standing in the doorway wearing only the Calvin Klein and a seductive smile, his hands out at his sides, as if to say, “What do you think?”

The clerk bustled over, looking irritated, but he held up his hand, stopping her in her tracks. “I’m buying them anyway. Just want my lover to see them.”

The well designed underwear molded to the bulge at his crotch beautifully. The bikini style revealed a tantalizing glimpse of pubic hair. Jessie couldn’t take her eyes off him. Neither could a handful of women who happened to be walking by.

He turned. “How about from the back? Look okay?”

She might faint. Her heart was pounding, pounding. “Very nice,” she croaked. “Are they comfortable?”

Hell’s bells! Now she was talking like his mother.

He winked at her over his shoulder, a big grin on his face. “Very.”

St. Eth’s brows lowered. “I depend upon you to insure you are not caught. It clearly isn’t any good at all to rely on my niece to be discreet in this matter. She is, in general, a very sensible girl, quite up to snuff, but apparently not in this case.”

He poured another cup of coffee. “Despite some of Lady Phoebe’s independent starts, she has never set the gossips’ tongues wagging. But, she is a babe in the woods when it comes to your courtship, and her usual good sense has gone begging. Though that might be to your advantage.”

Henry fixed a stern gaze on Marcus. “Now as to your activities in my house . . . What the devil either of you thought you were doing in the breakfast room alone, not a servant in sight, with the door closed, is more than I can understand. You’re very lucky it was I, and not Lady St. Eth, who came upon you.”
