Laura Scott is here! Can you believe it? Please welcome Laura and ask her tons of questions!

Books with a Holiday Theme

Hi everyone! Thanks for inviting me to blog with you today. My name is Laura Scott and I write romantic suspense stories for Harlequin’s Love Inspired Line.

It’s almost hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just a few days away. (I think I should start fasting now in preparation, lol) And of course not long after Thanksgiving comes Christmas. The holiday season is known to be busy, hectic, fun and of course filled with family gatherings.

It’s almost hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just a few days away. (I think I should start fasting now in preparation, lol) And of course not long after Thanksgiving comes Christmas. The holiday season is known to be busy, hectic, fun and of course filled with family gatherings.

Which brings to mind a question. What do you think about Holiday themed books? Seems to me, that this is such a busy time of year, who has time to read? And do we really enjoy reading about books that revolve around a holiday? And if you wait to read your stack of books after the holiday, does it bug you to go back in time?

Of course, this is a burning question in my mind as my most recent book: The Christmas Rescue is out now, in November. When I originally wrote this book, the story did not take place over the holiday. My wonderful editor, Tina, asked if I would mind making this a Christmas story, and of course I said, “Sure, I’d love to!”

I changed some things around so that the holiday would provide an emotional element to the story. But now that my latest book is out on the shelves, I can’t help but wonder…what do the readers think about books involving a holiday? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

I’d love to hear some of your thoughts on this topic. Please drop by and I’ll choose one person at the end of the day to win a free copy of my book.

Thanks!

Laura Scott

Welcome Laura! What a beautiful cover! Lots of good wishes for you on this release. What is different about writing for Love Inspired? Can you tell us how Harlequin's handling the shake up with closing out Shilouette as far as your line goes?

Waving hi, Laura! I missed you at the meeting on Saturday!

I enjoy holiday themed stories that make me feel warm and cozy. You said it, all of our lives are so busy, we get the warmth of the holidays in snatches. That's why we like a book, so we can savor the emotion vicariously. At least, that's my take.

Hi, Laura! Welcome to the Fuzzies! Good luck with this release! I think there are special holiday stories that add to the flavor of the holidays. It's nice to pick up an entertaining read for those quiet moments throughout the holidays! So, yes!!

Wow, everyone is up early this morning! Thanks again for having me. Scarlet, you asked what's different about writing for Love Inspired? These are still romances with a great suspense plot the only difference is that there is a faith journey.

As far as the shakeup with closing out Silhouette I really don't think there's an issue at all. These two lines have been merged for so long that the marketing for them has basically been the same. I have not heard of any editors losing their jobs or anything, but maybe you all know more than I do!

Hi Edie and Judy,

I'm so glad to hear you both like holiday themed books, lol! And Judy, you're doing something right if you have a few quiet moments over the holidays. :) I must learn from you!

Thanks for stopping by,

Cyrano, I have a question for you, how do you like your ipad? Do you use it for writing? Reading? Or just surfing the net?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Thanks, Laura

I LOVE MY IPAD Laura!
I use it for everything, surfing the web, reading books, drawing, games, photo album, manuscript workbook, Photoshop buddy. I can watch movies on it, tv shows, listen to music, play the piano, etc. The list goes on and on and...
I can't say enough great things about this perfect little electronic device.
My poor laptop is sorely neglected now that I have it.
I highly recommend it!
Thanks for asking, and thanks for answering the question about Silhouette.
And by the way, my book is a holiday themed romance too. Blessing in Disguise takes place during Halloween. That particular holiday isn't know as a warm and fuzzy one normally, but I tried my best to give the hero and heroine some warm and fuzzy emotion. iThe novel comes out December sixth! I'm very excited. You must be too!!!
have a happy evening!

Tamara, your ipad sounds wonderful. I've been debating whether or not to get an ipad, eReader or some sort of device at Christmas. I have heard a lot of great things about the ipad and you certainly helped send me in that direction, LOL.

Thanks for the feedback!

Laura, I think our audience likes holiday stories. You showed us how to give an editor what she wants! Writing to publish is a job and we must find a way to do what we must to sell. Thanks.

I wonder if readers would read the book at the holiday then after the holiday not. I'm sure the book is great. The cover is beautiful.
